The responsibility of monitoring arrangements related to students’ residence, food, and welfare lies with the Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare. The Director coordinates various co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as inter-collegiate, inter-university, and national-level sports competitions, as well as literary and cultural events. In addition to academic activities, various programmes are also carried out in the capacity of Programme Coordinator of the National Service Scheme (NSS).
The Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare assists students in obtaining suitable employment/placements according to their abilities. Efforts are made to ensure that students of Junagadh Agricultural University get employment opportunities in national and multinational agri-based companies, universities, banks, agricultural engineering-related companies, and NGOs.
The Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare organizes activities related to student guidance, counselling, placement, scholarships, and discipline. Guidance services are provided across all colleges and polytechnics.
Under the Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare, a Health Centre is functioning to provide health-related services to students and staff, including diagnosis and clinical examinations of health problems. Various health camps are organized from time to time.
To ensure that students and staff receive quality meals and refreshments, the University Canteen is operational on the campus.
The main objective of the Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare is to help students become responsible citizens of the nation by preparing them for self-development, personal skill enhancement, and a healthy lifestyle. Various officers from other departments are additionally appointed in the Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare to carry out welfare-related activities.
Through the Office of the Director of Students’ Welfare, inspirational lectures and seminars are organized by alumni of Junagadh Agricultural University as well as by renowned personalities. Students are trained through mock group discussions and interview techniques to face life’s challenges. Leadership and personality development training programmes are organized for the overall development of students. Special programmes initiated by the State Government, such as voter awareness, the Swachh Bharat Mission, and women empowerment programmes, are also implemented through this office.
Objectives:
1. To monitor arrangements related to students’ residence and food.
2. To organize counselling programmes for students.
3. To plan employment-related facilities for students and establish coordination with colleges’ placement in-charges and concerned companies.
4. To establish contact with public and private sector companies/institutions and organize campus interviews.
5. To supervise sports, National Service Scheme, adventure, and cultural activities.
6. To provide various training programmes for the personal development and improvement of communication skills of students.
7. To inform students about academic support related to various courses, admission procedures, and higher education.
8. To maintain liaison with the University Alumni Association.
9. To establish effective communication between students and teachers.
10. To select eligible students for gold medals and arrange medals for the annual convocation ceremony.
11. To provide financial assistance to students through scholarships.
12. To monitor student discipline and coordinate with Principals of affiliated colleges.
13. To create welfare-related facilities for students in coordination with Principals of colleges.
14. To appoint suitable Rectors/Assistant Rectors for hostels in coordination with Principals of colleges.
15. To monitor the University Health Centre and Canteen.
16. To perform any other duties assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.
