Year of Establishment: 1979-80

History:

Earlier, when Gujarat Agricultural University existed in the Gujarat state, four school of baking were established for self-employment opportunity to needy youth. The first school of Baking was established at Anand in 1963 followed by Junagadh and Navsari (1979-80) and finally at Sardarkrushinagar (1988-89). After that, Government of Gujarat has splitted GAU into four Agricultural Universities. Hence, School of Baking, Junagadh is working under Junagadh Agricultural University, Now. the training is imparted to boys and girls for the production of different bakery products in this school.

The main aim of the School is to impart training in modern techniques of bakery technology. It also provides opportunity to impart knowledge and improve skill of trainee for preparing about 80 items including common bakery products, like Bread, Biscuits, Cookies, Nankhatai, Cake, Khari, Puff, Pitza, Burger, Surti butter, Denish pastry, Doughnut, Cream roll, Buns, Toast etc., and also Pia, Swees roll, Marshmello, etc. fancy products, through theory and practical classes. It also covers the knowledge regarding quality of raw material, scientific knowledge of ingredients, improved process for the preparation of products and biological process involved in it, economics of food preparation, handling of various equipment and machinery, project report, government laws, loan facilities, establishment of bakery unit, planning and lay out, selling of products, accounts etc.

Objective of the Centre:

  1. To provide training to the young boys and girls for establishing bakery industry and thereby increase the self-employment opportunity for the educationally unemployed person.
  2. To impart knowledge regarding baking science to the new entrepreneur and to provide business opportunity.
  3. To provide technical & industrial know-how to the people engaged in bakery industries for the development of business.
  4. To provide the latest information on baking science and technology to the people engaged in the bakery business through conducting special training courses and other activities.
  5. To impart knowledge to prepare bakery products with the help of domestic method through organizing short duration on and off campus training programmes for housewives / ladies.

15 Weeks basic training course in baking science

Eligibility Criteria (For 15 weeks training course)

  • New SSCE pass or it's equivalent.
  • Age - 15 to 40 years.
  • 5 % additional weight age to science graduate candidates.
  • 4 % additional weightage to arts or commerce graduate candidates.
  • 3 % additional weightage to HSCE (12th) passed candidates.
  • 3 % less, that is deducted from New SSCE percentage who passed the same examination by more than one trials.

Admission Seats : 16 (For 15 weeks training course)

Admission Details :

  • Admission details will be advertised in the months of June and November in GUJARATI NEWS PAPER prior to the commencement of new batch.
  • Period of Study - 15 weeks (3III Months)
  • 1st Batch - July to October.
  • 2nd Batch - November to March.
  • Admission will be given on the basis of New SSCE merit and intake capacity of the school.
  • 80 % presence is necessary for attending final exam.

Medals : Nil

Students Reservation (Percentage) : Reservation for SC / ST / OBC/PWD/EWS candidates - 7, 15 and 27,5,10 %, respectively or as per norms.

Scholarship / Stipend: Rs. 2000/- per month (Limited to 16, i.e. intake capacity of the School and who fulfill the criteria for admission eligibility).

One-week training course for ladies

  • Practical training of Bread Making & Confectioneries subjects
  • One-week training course for ladies is organize during April, May and June months of the year.

Library: One (Main Campus Library located in the University Campus, Junagadh)

Sport Complex:  One (It is located as Gymkhana ground in the University Campus, Junagadh)

Seminar Hall: Available in Main Campus, Junagadh.

Conference Hall: Available in Main Campus, Junagadh.

Co-curricular Activities: 

Educational tour will be organized to see famous bakeries of Rajkot, Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Porbandar with a view to inform them regarding baking industries.

Many short agricultural training programmes like N.S.S. camp organized by Polytechnic in Agril., Polytechnic in Agro processing, Polytechnic in Horticulture, Veterinary College, Agril college, B.tech. college, and In collaboration with S.S.K., C.O.C.,NGOs demonstration regarding bakery products and its development as a small scale business have been delivered to the trainees by the staff. Besides that, many off campus one day camp have also been organized
