College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Junagadh
Considering the importance of Agricultural Engineering, the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology was established in May, 1984 as an constituent college of the then Gujarat Agricultural University at Junagadh Campus with the broad mandate of teaching, research and extension education in agricultural engineering. With the promulgation of Gujarat Agricultural Universities Act 2004 on May 1, 2004 heralding formation of Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU), the College became a constituent college of JAU. JAU’s jurisdiction covers evevan districts of Saurashtra region of Gujarat viz., Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Morbi, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka and Botad. The first batch of B. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) was admitted in July 1984.
The Junagadh Agricultural University Campus is located in the heart of Junagadh city at about 4 km from Railway Station and 3 km from Bus Station. The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (CAET) is located at this campus. The college premises established in about 11 ha land including the land occupied by the college building, various department buildings, lawns, roads, orchards and other establishments. The total buildup area is about 20000 sq.m. In addition to this, the Instructional farm of about 35 ha is maintained by the college. Instructional farm is used for demonstration of Agril. Engg. Technology, UG, PG & departmental research and practical. It is providing demonstration of mechanized farm to students and farmers and also producing breeder, foundation, certified and truthful seed for the farmers.
The college has all essential basic academic facilities like class rooms, examination halls, digital smart classroom, college & departmental library, seminar hall, conference hall, computer lab, mechanical workshop, artificial intelligence labs, exhibition hall / museum, instructional farm, hostels etc. The facilities like central library, central museum, central examination hall, information technology cell, agri. studio, health center, sports complex, playground (gymkhana), auditorium, open air theatre, canteen, guest houses, faculty residence and , cattle breeding farm(KU), are also available in university campus. The bank, ATM and post office facilities are also available in the campus.
The Agricultural Engineering plays an important role in increasing production and productivity of agricultural crops, thereby, increasing the income of farmers. The important areas in which Agricultural Engineering profession has to play major role are timeliness of farm operation through efficient agricultural implements and machinery including testing and evaluation of farm implements / machineries as per BIS system, appropriate land and water management activities, value addition and efficient post-harvest technology and processing of farm produces, efficient management of renewable energy resources, protective cultivation greenhouse technology and use of plastic mulch for crop cultivation, use of Artificial Intelligence in the agricultural equipment, machinery and process.
