Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) develops new technologies and improved practices in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, agricultural engineering and allied fields for farmers. The knowledge and skills related to these technologies are passed on to farming community by Extension Education for wider adoption and higher economic returns.
Extension Education serves as a crucial link between scientific research and farming communities by transferring proven agricultural technologies and innovations to farmers’ fields as well as bringing farmers’ problems for solutions in   laboratories and research farms.
The Directorate of Extension Education, Junagadh Agricultural University provides extension services across ten districts of the Saurashtra region of Gujarat through a well-coordinated network of Extension Centers and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The Directorate of Extension Education provides technical back stopping about new technologies and improved practices to the Extension Officers of State Department of Agriculture and Horticulture by organizing Bi-Monthly workshops and Pre-seasonal training programmes. There is also close collaboration with government departments, non-government organizations and private institutions to ensure effective technology dissemination.
The new technologies and improved practices are disseminated using multiple extension approaches such as field demonstrations, farmer trainings, advisory services, farmer meetings, mass media and digital platforms. JAU also actively participates in State Government flagship programmes such as Krishi Mahotsav, as well as Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions for transferring new technologies in wider area.
Through sustained and inclusive extension efforts, Junagadh Agricultural University reaches farmers even in the remotest corners of the Saurashtra region. The dissemination of information increased agricultural productivity, profitability and sustainability.
