Training and Visit Scheme

Junagadh Agricultural University provides technical back stopping about new technologies and improved practices to the Extension Officers of State Department of Agriculture and Horticulture by organizing Bi-Monthly workshops and Pre-seasonal training programmes under Training and Visit System.
These programmes are aligned with the major cropping Seasons and new technologies developed by research stations. The scientists of research stations discuss the information about new research in plant protection measures, nutrient management and improved package of practices in the workshops. Simultaneously,   group discussions are organized where Extension officers of State Department present farmer-level problems, constraints and queries encountered in the field. Scientists provide scientific explanations, technical guidance and appropriate solutions based on research findings. The discussion among the Scientists and Extension Officers brings some conclusions in form of advisory for farmers which include information about new practices and solutions of farmer’s problems. The programme also includes field visits to laboratories and research stations of University enabling participants to observe improved technologies, demonstrations and best management practices under field conditions.
Thus, through this interactive and participatory approach, the regularly organized training enhances the technical knowledge and skills of extension functionaries about new technologies and improved practices for communicating the farmers of their jurisdiction.
