Students activities and placement cell

The Student Activities and Placement Cell (SAPC) of the College of Horticulture (CoH), JAU, Junagadh, is actively engaged in fostering the career development of both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students. The primary mission of SAPC is to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to enhance their career prospects, with an ultimate aim of achieving 100% placement in alignment with their individual aspirations and career orientations.

The placement cell is proactive in building strong connections between students and potential employers at the college level. Beyond merely enhancing subject-specific knowledge, SAPC also emphasizes the development of general knowledge and personality traits. Special initiatives are taken to prepare students for various competitive examinations. The cell boasts a well-stocked library with resources essential for the preparation of a wide range of competitive exams. Students receive regular guidance to prepare for higher studies, including support for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowships (SRF) for B.Sc. (Horticulture) and M.Sc. (Horticulture) students, respectively. Additionally, students interested in pursuing higher studies abroad are guided through the requisite exams and processes. The cell also provides assistance in preparing innovative projects, participating in hackathons, and competing in various other events, including ARS/NET exams conducted by agencies such as UGC, ASRB, and CSIR.

Moreover, the SAPC organizes guest lectures delivered by experts from various disciplines, aimed at updating students' domain-specific knowledge. It also arranges mock interviews, a personality development session, quiz competitions, and provides essential information on passport and visa matters, among other activities. These initiatives collectively contribute to the holistic development of the students.

Notable Achievements:

  • Each year, students from this college are selected for positions in government and semi-government sectors, including the Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Department of Forests, SAUs, and other institutes, as well as GSFC, public and private banks.
  • Many students have secured positions in the private sector, joining fertilizer and pesticide companies, seed companies, landscaping firms, and nurseries.
  • A significant number of students pursue higher studies and many have successfully obtained scholarships such as JRF/SRF, INSPIRE, SHODH and others.
  • Some students have ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing their own businesses in horticulture-related industries, where they have achieved considerable success and reputation.
  • Notably, in 2024-25, 15 students from the College of Horticulture were selected as Marketing Sales Officers in the private sector in Gujarat.

Through these efforts, the SAPC at the College of Horticulture, JAU, Junagadh, plays a critical role in shaping the careers and overall development of its students.

Placement status of students

The placement status of the students in the academic year 2024-25 is furnished below. It could be ascertained that the students are getting placed through both on-campus and off-campus placements. Out of the 72 passed out students, 9 students selected in on campus placement, off campus placement one and 63 students interested in preparing for various competitive examinations including public service commissions, banking, etc.

Besides, a total of students was placed through both on-campus and off-campus placement activities of the SCPC, COH, JAU, Junagadh.
